Hey Mr. Alward, how's that languages act coming along? We've had our fair share of language concerns in the recent months and it's seriously got to stop. We've been told it's being "balanced". 66% to 34% doesn't seem to be very balanced to me. Not to mention that the 34% that we hear from are the only ones we hear from. If bilingualism isn't going to work for both sides in New Brunswick, I think it's time we cut our losses and forget about it.
Thank you for breaking (yet again) another promise to us Mr Premier. We love your work. We trust you so much. Let's keep your meetings secretive and just completley ignore the issue. It is seriously time we can this bilingual crap and let everyone speak what they want freely. New Brunswick is undergoing a serious Anglophone brain drain and anyone who doesn't see it is probably a part of it. Graduate from an english university = Plane ticket out of the province

Codiac Transit - Cry Me A River!
An issue that has concerned me for a long time is the locked out bus drivers in Moncton. We sit and wait as figures are thrown at us daily, not too far off one another while revenue continues to go down. You're asking for $53 000!! There are people with University degrees that don't make that! YOU DRIVE A BUS. You make $44K a year which in my opinion is a very generous number. Oh, and you want $60K a year by 2017?
I'm not saying the City of Moncton is completley in the right either though. Get replacement drivers, Do something! There are so many people in Moncton that would kill to be making $44K a year. No need for a pay raise. I still can't get over what a disgusting figure $60K is. There are people who have masters and doctorate degrees who aren't making that. If these greedy workers end uo getting remotely close to that figure, Moncton is digging a deeper and deeper hole for themselves in debt and in labor. Soon enough the guy that shovels dog crap in Centennial park will be asking for $60K a year.

Discipline in NB Schools
Recently in the news, there was an article about a Moncton teacher being under fire for disciplinary actions taken in tying 2 students together for them to get along. It seems Moncton area schools have been getting a lot of grief lately in their handling of disciplinary issues. Really? For being a little more strict on students, that's supposed to be a crime. Parents are quick to lash out and want the head of the teacher or principal when their child is mistreated. Whether there is an incident with a student, teacher or faculty member, it is absolutley ridiculous for parents to act like this!
When your son or daughter gets into the real world, where's mommy and daddy to help them when someone "hurts their feelings". We see stuff like this go on and we wonder why kids are growing up the way they are. What really grinds my gears about this whole scenario is these are 35-40 year old parents! How were they treated back in their day? They turned out fine, didn't they? If a teacher were to give a student the strap or actually suspend a student, the chances of them being a repeat offender are much lower. I don't mean to sound old fashioned or anything but babying students in place of disciplinary action isn't working.
It's about time that our Minister of Education steps in and puts some policies in place that actually work. As for the parents involved in this case and cases of their children in general. Grow up! The youth of today aren't growing up brats, you're raising them into them.

Frack Off
I've been asked a lot recently what is my position on fracking. I don't mean to sound like one of those annoying environmentalists that sit outside city hall with torches but it is such a horrible plan.
Let's take a totally unproven source of gas, unsafely remove it from remote properties and use it for economic gain. Sure, I like that idea! Shake up the ground and disturb natural life.
For the moment I'm going to call myself Joe the farmer. I have had this farm, my father gave it to me, his father passed it down to him. We drink water from a well and raise cattle. Never had any problems whatsoever. Suddenly, we can't drink the water. Our animals are scared to death. Everyone is getting sick. Our perfect little family farm, down the tubes. Take them to court you might say? A year later we may get a $50 000 settlement or so but what is that to them? Making millions of dollars is far more important than the citizens of New Brunswick. We can afford operations like this yet we can't afford to employ ourselves, educate our children or put doctors in our hospitals. Welcome to New Brunswick! Alward 1 . Society 0.

"Reconstructed" School Districts. "Reconstructed" Debt.
Minister of Education Jody Carr said it would save us money. We reconstructed our school districts, everything will get better. Sure, this is working absolutley fantastic. Withholding 25-30% of the budget is exactly how our minister of education is handling things. Anglophone schools have only received 70% of funding. Francophone schools have received 75% of theirs. Why they get more? I'll touch on that later. For now let's see where that 30% is at.
See, this wouldn't be such an awful deal cutting our school districts if it created more money. Well, it did create more money. The location of that money is unknown however. Schools aren't asking for millions of dollars. It's a razor thin budget that they have to play with anyways and now the government is withholding between 25 and 30% of it. How does somebody get away with that? If I borrow $100 from you and pay you back $70 you might start to ask questions. On top of that, I say "Well, you may or may not get your other $30, We'll see." Great financial managment. Better yet, Mr. Carr, want 70% of your money. We'll see about the rest of it. You might or might not get it.
Mr. Premier, Help us! I'm really enjoying your assistance on this. Have you just been having a 2 year nap in dealing with the education system or do you honestly lack that much of a clue. Let's let a minority take 5% more than the anglophone school district. An anglophone district that applies to far more students. What warrants them more money? This is a blatant act of discrimination and should be stopped. Francophones getting more than english people around here? What a shocker.

Unemployment
Unemployment rates in New Brunswick are currently 11.6%. The highest that we have reached in almost 10 years. 2100 jobs were lost in the last month alone. What a system! We take a province with a 14 million dollar budget and what do we get out of it? Done already? Time for a little math boys and girls. With 2100 full time jobs at 40 hours a week gone, we lose 84 000 hours of employment. Even at minimum wage this would lose approximatley 1 million dollars out of the economy.
We can't employ those who live here, so why would they live here? Go out west and make at least 18% higher. That's a generous figure. Our revenue is down, so why don't we keep on cutting and driving more and more families out of the province. Cutting from education, economic development and everything else we need is surely the solution though right? Yes, David Alward. Everything is improving. What a leader we have.

Welcome To Wake Up New Brunswick
Wake Up New Brunswick is a personal blog keeping you up to date with what really goes on behind closed doors of our provincial government. The issues in our towns, cities and what the media won't tell you. I'm not here to sugar coat anything. I'm here to make New Brunswickers think. We deserve a province that is run by somebody who cares about who we are as people. Someone who has lived and seen what life is like in a real town. Someone who won't turn a blind eye when there's a problem. This is real life, not a fantasy world.
